Apparently, Apple has “invented” some sort of killer technology for the iPhone, that lets you select something, “copy” it to an internal memory buffer, and then “paste” it somewhere else. They’re calling it the ClipBoard ™. What next, they’ll claim to have invented phones too? Maybe the color Yellow?
Of course, we expect that it will pale in comparision to ClipMate, the first ClipBoard EXTENDER, written way back in 1991. Ironically, inspired by the lameness of the Mac clipboard. Read about it here.
If management at Apple and at Microsoft for that matter, had a clue about how poor their current clipboard offerings are, they would license ClipMate’s technology or at least it’s ideology and build it into their operating systems, so that end users could work more effectively.
As a longtime ClipMate user, I suppose that I may be partial, but I seriously cannot imagine working in Windows without ClipMate being there to speed things up. The ClipMate program IS that important to me any other power-user, and would be to any other computer user in general who learned about it and gave it a try.
The clipboard as is, is truly ineffective compared to what it can be. If more people were users of, or at least knew about ClipMate’s power and time saving features as related to Windows, Apple and Microsoft would perhaps take notice and do something about their clipboards that are basically the same as the day the modern GUI was created by Apple and (cough cough) Microsoft.
